Emerson Point Preserve is one of the most beautiful and versatile locations for family photography near Bradenton and Palmetto, Florida. With its shaded trails, mature trees, tropical greenery, wooden boardwalks, sandy coastal areas, and beautiful views near the water, it gives families a variety of natural backgrounds without having to travel between multiple locations.
This sweet family of four joined me at Emerson Point Preserve for a warm and playful outdoor session. With a toddler and a baby, our focus was not on creating perfectly posed photographs. Instead, we let the children’s personalities lead the way while capturing connection, laughter, movement, sibling moments, and a few classic family portraits along the way.
The result was a gallery that feels joyful and relaxed while preserving what their family looks and feels like during this season.

One reason I love photographing families here is the amount of variety we can create during a single session. The preserve offers wooded areas with soft filtered light, large trees, Florida greenery, wooden walkways, sandy paths, and coastal scenery.
That variety allows a family gallery to feel complete without requiring everyone—especially young children—to spend the entire session traveling between different locations.
For this session, we started beneath the trees, where the large branches and surrounding greenery created a beautiful natural frame around the family. We then used the boardwalk and coastal areas to add more light, texture, and Florida scenery to their gallery.

I believe family photography should preserve more than everyone standing in a row and smiling at the camera. While I always capture traditional portraits, some of the most meaningful photographs happen between those poses.

Young children are naturally curious, active, and unpredictable—and that is completely okay. Rather than expecting toddlers and babies to behave like adults, I work with their energy. We move around, take breaks, play, cuddle, and change activities before they become bored.
For this family, lifting the children into the air created some of the happiest expressions of the session. Their daughter’s laughter and the baby’s sweet reactions became part of the story rather than something we needed to control.
Some children need time to warm up. Others are ready to explore as soon as they arrive. I leave room for both. Even the quieter expressions, cuddles, and in-between moments can become some of the photographs parents treasure most.
Capturing the Relationship Between Siblings
One of the sweetest parts of this Emerson Point Preserve family session was photographing the connection between the older sister and her baby sibling.
Sibling photographs do not always need to be perfectly posed. A gentle nose-to-nose moment, a hug, a shared laugh, or an older sibling checking on the baby can say so much more than a forced smile.
As children grow, their relationship changes quickly. Family sessions preserve not only what each child looks like but also how they interact with each other during this specific season.
